SSC Recruitment – SSC Online
Formerly Known as the Subordinate Services Commission, Staff Selection Commission, headquartered in New Delhi, is an organisation which is responsible for recruiting staff for various posts in the departments, ministries and subordinate offices throughout the nation. Various Regional offices of SSC are located at Chennai, Allahabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Guwahati and Kolkata. Besides regional office two sub-regional offices are at Chandigarh and Raipur. During 1967-68, in the Parliament the Estimates committee recommended the setting up of a Service Selection Commission in its 47th report for recruiting lower categories posts in various government offices through conducting examinations. Later, in the year 1975 the Indian Government renamed the commission as Subordinate Service Commission. On 26th September 1977, the Subordinate Services Commission was renamed as the Staff Selection Commission. On 21 May 1999, the Government of India through Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions redefined the functions of Staff Selection Commission. As a result, the functions of SSC came into effect from 1 June 1999.

SSC Examination – SSC Posts
SSC Staff Selection functions as an autonomous body and conducts examination for job aspirants to enter the world of Sarkari Naukri. Matric, 10+2 Pass and Graduation Degree holders can apply for the different SSC Examination and SSC Posts in which organisation recruits manpower. In the previous years, SSC conducts various exams like SSC Multitasking, SSC GD Constable, Hindi Translator, SSC CHSL Exam, Junior Engineer, SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination, Central Police Organisation, Scientific Assistant Post.
The recruitment to the posts is done in two ways, i.e. Open Examination and Departmental Examination. The exams conducted under the open examination system are Combined Graduate Level Examination, Tax Assistant Examination, Statistical Investigators (SSS) Grade IV Examination, Junior Engineers (Civil & Electrical) Examination, Junior Translators (CSOLS) Examination, Section Officer (Comml Audit) Examination, Deputy Field Officer (Cab Sectt) Examination, Data Entry Operator(DEO) Examination, Sub Inspector in CPOs Examination, Section Officer (Audit) Examination, Combined Higher Secondary Level (10+2) Exam and Section Officer (Accounts) Examination. The exams conducted under the departmental examination system are Grade ‘C’ Stenographers Ltd. Depttl. Cpmpt. Examination, UD Grade Ltd. Depttl. Compt. Examination and Clerks Grade (For Group ‘D’ Staff only) Examination.
Combined Higher Secondary Level(CHSL) exam is conducted every year by SSC for recruitment in various organisations, departments, ministries of the Indian Government. This exam is conducted for filling posts like Court Clerk, Data Entry Operator, Postal Assistants, Lower Division Clerk. To sit in SSC CHSL candidate must fulfill the eligibility criteria. It is utmost important that candidate must be a citizen of India. The willing candidates must fall in the age bracket of 18-27 years. In addition, candidates must have passed 12th standard or equivalent examination from a recognized board or university. Those who are aspiring for government jobs through SSC CGL, should be between the age group of 18 to 32 years. However, age limit is relaxable for the candidates of reserved categories according to the rules of the Government of India. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university.
The exam structure consists of a Preliminary Examination followed by a Main examination. Earlier interview round was there, but following a government order, interviews have been dispensed off for all non-gazetted posts in the central government. A computer proficiency test or a skill test will also be conducted for some posts.
