An autonomous and self-sustained premier testing agency, The National Testing Agency conduct recruitment exams like UGC-NET and entrance examinations for higher educational institutions. The mission of the NTA is to enhance equity and quality in education by administering research-based valid, reliable, efficient, transparent, fair and international level assessments. The agency was set up a vision statement “The right candidates joining best institutions will give India her demographic dividend”. Why was NTA formed?

Every year, more than 1.12 crore students appear for CBSE exams. It is becoming difficult for CBSE to hold board exams as well as entrances at such a large scale. Besides it, the conducting bodies used to take JEE and NEET entrance examinations just once a year. Following this, students had to burn the midnight oil to qualify for his or her entrance examinations in one go. In the event of their failure, they might look forward to another year to crack their entrance exam, which results in wastage of time. Taking these aspects into thought, Union HRD Minister recommends setting up of a National Testing Agency which will hold exams. This autonomous body will result in lessening the burden of CBSE and removal of discrepancies and malpractices.
