Comes under the direct control of the Department of Home Affairs, Government of Bihar, The Bihar Police Department is the law and order and law enforcement agency. It is headed by a Director General of Police (DGP). Patna, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga and Bhagalpur are the four zones in which the state is divided and each zone is commanded by an Additional Director General (Addl. DGP) or an Inspector-General (IGP). Further each zone is divided into two to three ranges, each commanded by a Deputy Inspector General (DIGP). Within each range three to six district falls and each under a Superintendent of Police. The organization structure of the Bihar Police in the decreasing order of ranks is Director General of Police (DGP), Additional Director General of Police, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Deputy Inspector General of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police (SP), Additional Superintendent of Police, Assistant SP (IPS) or Deputy SP (BPS), Inspector of Police, Sub-Inspector of Police, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, Head Constable, Senior Constable and Constable.

Bihar Police Constable – Bihar SI
If you are looking for a job as a constable then you must be aware that the constable can either work in the state police services or in paramilitary forces, i.e. Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Border Security Force and other related forces. But to start a Bihar police career you must know about the career scope and the duties of a person with this designation. Generally, a constable is of two types – one who helps to enforce law and order in the country and the second who safeguards the civilians in border areas. For entry as a Bihar Police Constable, the candidate should be between the age band of 18-28 years (upper age relaxation in case of SC/ST/OBC) and must be at least 10+2/10 pass from a recognized board along with a valid driving license in case of Constable (driver) and professional knowledge and experience in case of a constable (trade). The selection process for the post involves a written exam and the salary structure varies between Rs.5200-20200 along with an additional amount of Rs.1900 as Grade Pay. The written exam is of 100 marks of 2 hours duration and includes questions regarding General Knowledge of 40 marks, Reasoning of 30 marks and Science & Maths of 30 marks.

The salary structure varies between Rs.9300-34800 along with an additional amount of Rs.3600 as Grade Pay. The written exam includes 3 papers of 2 hours duration each. The first one is the Proficiency in English & Hindi in which 70 marks are awarded to the Hindi section and 30 marks to the English section. The second paper is of General Knowledge of 100 marks and the third paper is of PCM (Physics, Chemistry & Maths) of 100 marks. Upon clearing the written exam, the candidates are entitled for a Physical Proficiency test of 100 marks.
